Acuity
has an opening for a software engineer developing a
system for real-time measurement of the motion of aircraft
and spacecraft models in transonic wind tunnels. We
have combined a laser pattern projection hardware with
a synchronized camera system, and have demostrated 6-DOF
determination of model pose. Phase 2 will build on this,
using multiple images and integrating the capabilities
into products for real-time computation of object motion,
vibration, and deformation. This work is being performed
under contract to Arnold Air Force Base, home of some
of the world's largest wind tunnels.
Projective geometry is used to determine relative motion
between multiple cameras and the model under test. The
measurement techniques to be developed will work with
passive video and painted surface markings as well as
with active laser pattern projection on unmarked surfaces.
Future applications include structural vibration and
strain visualization as well as automated manufacturing
inspection and quality control.
